The currency in Colombia is Colombian Pesos, abbreviated COP. In general, COP 10.000 is worth around €2.00, US$ 22.00 and £2.00. However, make sure to check the latest exchange rate as it fluctuates.
In general, credit and debit cards are accepted in hotels and up-scale restaurants. However, we highly recommend to always having cash on hand. In many small local shops and in some of the local restaurants it is not possible to pay by card. There are many ATM’s to be found to get Colombian Pesos. In general, the service of BanColombia is the best.
Before leaving, make sure to check with your bank you have an international card that can be used in Colombia as well as in the countries of connecting flights.
