Saskia and Wolter have made a diverse tour, they have been to Medellin, the Amazon, the coffee region, Cartagena and Isla Rosario.
“We saw a lot of different regions because we had 5 domestic flights. Each region had its unique points. In each region we had our own private guide and driver and they filled us with enthusiastic stories and facts about their region, but also about Colombia. In Medellin it happened to be ‘Dia de las Velitas’ and Rhonda took us into a unique experience and we went into town together in the evening to see how candles were lit everywhere on the street and how the Christmas lights were lit. She immediately turned it into a street food tour. Tasted things that you might not have caught yourself otherwise. In Medellin we found district 13 super. So much color and life! A neighborhood you must see! In the Amazon, our guide thought super along and changed the daily schedule so that we were always ahead of a large group. In the coffee region we went to a coffee plantation of acquaintances of our guide and we chatted for a long time. The private horseback ride was also super relaxing. So glad we hadn’t done this at the cocora valley. We found Cartagena too touristy and you were very harassed within the walls of the old city by sellers and people who just wanted money from you because they supposedly sang a song for you, etc. The city walk to the getsemani district was then again recommended. We never felt unsafe anywhere in Colombia, only in Cartagena the people were so pushy that we didn’t like it. Because we made our trip in December we saw amazing Christmas lights in every city. Nice perk. All in all, a beautiful country, very versatile and with friendly people. Rhonda had everything super organized. The guides were always ready for us at the airport and helped us check in again when we went on to another region. Very nice because neither of us speak Spanish and they hardly speak English at the airports.”
