Cartagena

The colorful Old Town of Cartagena is a magical attraction on its own, day and night. Originally founded in 1533, the absorbing beauty of the city is preserved in a wonderful way.

Cartagena was declared by UNESCO in 1984 as Historical and Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Being rich in unique architecture and historical sites, there are plenty things to do and see in the city of Cartagena, and photographers can indulge themselves. Wander around in the cobblestone streets, forming a cozy labyrinth of brightly colored buildings, floral balconies, luxurious boutique hotels, multifarious restaurants and bars, welcoming plazas and cute boutique shops. Walk over the 13 km centuries old stonewalls that round the city in order to defend itself from possible pirate attacks. Visit the San Felipe Castle and learn all about the city’s colonial history, or stop by one of the many churches, museums or parks.

Take your chance and soak up the omnipresent exotic Caribbean culture. Feast on fresh fish with coconut rice and a juice, or enjoy a fresh fruit salad made by one of the colorful Palenque women who are dressed in an eye-catching, traditional dress. Without a doubt, you’ll get wind of the Colombian music styles Champeta and Cumbia, being very popular amongst the locals. Or dance the night away in a Salsa bar…

Boat trips

There are various options to escape the city during the tropical heat of the days in north Colombia. Make a boat trip to the Rosario Islands, a beautiful archipelago off the coast of Cartagena, or visit the island Tierra Bomba. Spend the day relaxing on the islands and take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear Caribbean waters. Or spend the day at the beautiful, white sand beaches with turquoise water of Playa Blanca.
